Red State – D-Day Anniversary – Emanuel Cleaver Dictatorships – Gates to Services – Detroit has 200K more voters

1. President Obama: Are You or Are You Not Going to Normandy for the 65th Anniversary of D-Day?

It’s a simple question, and the answer should be a no-brainer. So why is your administration stirring up the hornet’s nest by insisting on “No Comment” as its response?

Why are Congressional Black Caucus members in such a rush to befriend a repressive regime that hates freedom, unless they too have no problem with repressing freedom?

Dissent is Patriotic for Me, But Not for Thee

1. President Obama: Are You or Are You Not Going to Normandy for the 65th Anniversary of D-Day?

It’s a simple question, and the answer should be a no-brainer. So why is your administration stirring up the hornet’s nest by insisting on “No Comment” as its response?

During his incredibly successful [/snark] trip to Europe last week, President Obama rejected an invitation from French president Nicolas Sarkozy to visit Normandy, France – the site of the 1944 D-Day beach landing. The reason given by the Obama administration? They didn’t want to offend the Germans by having the U.S. president visit the site where over 4,400 allied soldiers died in the operation that made victory in Europe against the evil, inhuman Nazi German regime and its allies possible.

They didn’t want to offend the Germans. Amazing. Perhaps we should next cancel all July 4 celebrations out of fear of offending the British? Or perhaps we should cancel Easter out of fear of “offending” the Romans, or cancel all 9/11 remembrances out of fear of “offending” al Qaeda terrorists, or cancel Memorial and Veterans’ days out of fear of “offending” all and sundry who have had the misfortune of throwing themselves on American bayonets over the course of our nearly-223-year history.

Sounds absurd, doesn’t it? Absolutely – until you push a little further, and learn anew just what absurdity really is, courtesy – again – of the Obama administration:

“Mr Sarkozy’s most senior aide said Mr Obama had agreed to come back in June for the 65th anniversary of the June 6th 1944, D-Day landings. A White House spokesman declined to comment on whether Mr Obama would travel to France in June.”

So far, innumerable media outlets have reported that Obama will, in fact, be joining Sarkozy in Normandy on the June 6 anniversary of D-Day – but every one is citing Sarkozy and other European sources, because the Obama administration, for whatever reason, is refusing to confirm or deny whether Obama intends to honor those fallen – and those saved – by the historic D-Day operation.

2. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) Has No Problems With Repressive, Murderous Dictatorships

Why are Congressional Black Caucus members in such a rush to befriend a repressive regime that hates freedom, unless they too have no problem with repressing freedom?

NPR interviews Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) about the Congressional Black Caucus’s visit to Cuba. Brown’s comments have gotten little play and, in fact, what should have been the money quote is totally ignored by NPR.

At the 2 minute mark in the interview, the reporter Melissa Block asks, “Well, Congressman, you well know that supporters of current Cuba policy, supporters of the embargo, say if you lift sanctions you are going to just aid and justify a repressive regime, you are going to kill any hope of democracy – that regime will just use more resources to become more oppressive than it already is.”

Cleaver: “Well, the world operates at its best when there’s diversity. Every nation does not need to be like the United States. And, frankly, we already have ties to diplomatic nations. And, frankly, if there is repression in Cuba we didn’t see it.”

Block points out that Cleaver did not meet with any Cuban dissidents at all during the entire trip. Cleaver’s response was that “it’s not going to be helpful for us to throw our fingers in the face of the Cuban leadership while we’re saying to them dialogue is possible.”

3. Gates to Services: Shut Up and Back Obama’s Budget Cuts

Dissent is Patriotic for Me, But Not for Thee

They told me that if I voted for McCain, political appointees would ruthlessly strong-arm career government employees, and force them to stay silent when their views deviated from the company line. And they were right!

[Gates] said he tried to give the services the “maximum possible opportunity” to share their views during the internal budget negotiations.

“The thing that is important is to reinforce within the building, in terms of dealing with the Hill, that there is a chain of command,” he said. “Once the decision is made, and particularly once the president signs off on the budget, then there needs to be discipline about people not conducting guerilla warfare against decisions the president has made.”

During the war in Iraq, the Left made a cottage industry out of promoting anyone loosely connected with the Pentagon who might ever had had a qualm about the direction the Pentagon was taking. I can only hope they’ll be equally interested in this attempt to censor the brave public servants who might be willing to stand up against the President’s attempt to force adherence to the idea of the ‘unitary executive.’ After all, if career military officers happen to think the President is pursuing a course that recklessly endangers America and its interests, they want those brave souls to speak up about it, right?

4. Detroit has 200k more voters than people over 18

Democrats want every vote, however it got voted to count. Republicans want every voter to count.

There are over 200,000 more registered voters in Detroit than the census estimates that there are people over 18.

“Detroit election officials confirmed Monday what an analysis of census and population records shows: The city has more registered voters than it has residents over the voting age of 18.”

Ultimately, election officials point to federal laws that don’t allow election officials to purge rolls. So what is the Democrats’ – and California Democrat Zoe Lofgren in particular – response? Introduce a bill to forbid purging those rolls.
